Air pollution may be linked to neurodegenerative diseases

A collaborative study from researchers from a number of institutions in the UK and Mexico has identified the presence of magnetic magnetite nanoparticles within the human brain. Previous research has demonstrated a potential link between the presence of these particles and neurodegenerative diseases, giving these new findings particular significance. Due to their size and similarity to particles formed at high temperatures, the authors suggest that the magnetite nanoparticles may originate from an external source, such as air pollution.
