Could Krabbe’s disease provide insight into neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s?

In a recent commentary, authors from the University of Illinois at Chicago (IL, USA) have postulated a potential link between the rare disorder Krabbe’s disease and late-onset neurodegenerative diseases. Following on from previous research into the connection between lysosomal storage disorders and neurodegenerative disorders, an established connection between such diseases could open up the potential for developing novel therapeutic targets and identifying new biomarkers for the screening of at-risk individuals.
