Newly identified serum biomarker could improve diagnosis of neuroinflammation

Researchers from Mayo Clinic (MN, USA) have identified a new biomarker for autoimmune meningoencephalomyelitis, an inflammatory disorder of the nervous system. This biomarker is an astrocyte-specific autoantibody present in the cerebrospinal fluid and serum of sufferers of this form of neuroinflammation. The findings were recently published in JAMA Neurology. Vanda Lennon (Mayo Clinic), senior author of the study, described the disorder further: "Headache is a prominent symptom reported by the patients.
