NF-ƙB-TNFα signaling implicated in frontotemporal dementia

Researchers from the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease (University of California; CA, USA) have identified the neurological impact of a mutation in the progranulin gene associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). In this latest study, genetic manipulation to delete the progranulin protein from microglia resulted in obsessive like behaviors and social withdrawal in murine models. FTD is a common form of dementia in individuals under 65 years. Around 10% of cases manifest from haploinsufficiency in the progranulin gene.
