New genetic risk variants for Parkinson’s disease discovered

Researchers from 23andMe, Inc. and Genentech (both CA, USA) have published results from their multi-year collaboration, using data from over 425,000 individuals. From this sample, 17 new genetic risk variants associated with Parkinson’s were identified alongside the confirmation of many known variants. New candidate genes were also identified, which will be important for future work.
