New animal model suggests Alzheimer’s progression facilitated by amyloid-β plaques
Research published in Nature Medicine has presented an animal model for Alzheimer’s that incorporates both amyloid-β and tau pathologies and may allow for testing novel therapies in a more realistic context. Results from this study have suggested that amyloid-β facilitates connection between plaques and tau; hence such an interaction enhances the spread of mutated tau proteins and thus progression of the disease.
