Two scientists from the University of Houston (TX, USA) have reported that defects in the dentate gyrus (DG) are regulated by a nuclear receptor – termed LXRβ – that may be linked to autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The DG is responsible for emotion and memory and is known to be involved in ASD. Margaret Warner and Jan-Åke Gustafsson (both from the University of Houston) have worked together for four decades in the discovery of nuclear receptors in brain functions.
