Is there a link between traumatic brain injury and dementia?

In one of the largest studies of its kind, researchers have revealed that the risk of dementia – including Alzheimer’s – is significantly higher in people who have experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI) than with people who have no history of TBI.

The potential link between TBI and dementia has become a pressing issue, particularly among military veterans and participants of contact sports. Researchers sought to resolve conflicting findings from previous studies on the link between TBI and dementia.
