Is there a link between vitamin D deficiency and loss of brain plasticity?

0
Researchers at the University of Queensland (Australia) have indicated that vitamin D affects perineuronal nets within the brain, which could facilitate the loss of brain plasticity and might lead to disorders such as depression and schizophrenia.

Lead author Thomas Burne (University of Queensland) and colleagues have shown for the first time that vitamin D levels affect the perineuronal nets in the brains of adult mice. Their findings have recently been published in Trends in Neuroscience and Brain Structure and Function.
