The obesity paradox: could excess body fat improve stroke survival rates?

A recent study analyzing the relationship between body weight and stroke survival rate has determined that overweight individuals are more likely to survive acute ischemic stroke than those of normal weight.

The results of the study, which was performed by researchers from the University of California Los Angeles (CA, USA), will be presented at the 71st Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Neurology (4–10 March 2019, Philadelphia, PA, USA).
