A groundbreaking £20 million research center will develop new technologies in the hopes of creating dementia-friendly ‘Healthy Homes’ and provide insights into how dementia develops.
The center hopes to utilize a wide range of approaches from artificial intelligence and robotics to sleep monitoring, in order to enable people with dementia to live safely and independently in their own homes.
“The vision for this center is to use patient-centered technology to help people affected by dementia to live better and for longer in their own homes,” explained David Sharp (Imperial College London, UK). “Latest figures suggest that one in four hospital beds are occupied by people with dementia – and 20% of these admissions are due to preventable causes such as falls, dehydration and infections.”
