New study will analyze long-term impacts of concussion in rugby players

In a collaborative effort, bringing together experts from the Rugby Football Union (RFU; UK), The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK), Queen Mary University of London (UK), The Institute of Occupational Medicine (Edinburgh, UK), University College London (UK) and Oxford University (UK), a new research initiative, funded by The Drake Foundation, is aiming to decipher relationships between concussion and neurodegenerative disease.

The study will be following on from research recently carried out by a team at the Oxford Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis (UK) that surveyed approximately 300 former England rugby internationals and Oxford and Cambridge University (both UK) players in order to build a database of information on playing history, past injuries and current health.
