Dementia exercise programs may not slow cognitive decline, study indicates

In a recent study published in The BMJ, researchers have revealed that moderate-to-high intensity exercise does not slow cognitive impairment in older individuals with dementia. According to the researchers, although the exercise program improved physical fitness, it cannot be recommended as a treatment option for cognitive impairment in dementia. In the multicenter, randomized-controlled trial, a team of UK researchers estimated the effect of a moderate-to-high intensity aerobic and strength exercise training program on cognitive impairment and other outcomes in patients with mild-to-moderate dementia.
