Call for Papers – Pain Management: Non-opioid treatments in pain management
Do you have original research or review papers you wish to publish on non-opioid treatments in pain management? Pain Management invites you to submit your paper to its latest Article Collection.
Pain is a common, complex and distressing problem, affecting millions of people worldwide and exerting a huge social and economic burden. Opioids are commonly used to manage both acute and chronic pain, and the use of prescription opioids has increased dramatically over recent decades. Although efficacious in the treatment of acute pain, there is evidence to suggest that opioids may not show clinically meaningful improvements in chronic pain when compared to placebo or non-opioid treatments. Furthermore, long-term use of opioids can lead to dependence, mental and physical health problems, and death due to overdose or heart conditions.
This Article Collection, titled ‘Non-opioid treatments in pain management’, explores alternatives to opioid treatment for acute and chronic pain, including (but not limited to):
- Non-opioid drugs (e.g. NSAIDs, antidepressants, CGPR receptor antagonists)
- Medical devices (e.g. Spinal Cord Stimulators, TENS, topical/transdermal patches)
- Surgical/interventional treatment (e.g. radiofrequency ablation, mesenchymal stem cell injection, peripheral nerve stimulation, nerve blocks)
- Non-pharmacological therapies (e.g. physical therapy, exercise, yoga music, osteopathy)
