Call for Papers – Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment: Closing the mortality gap: novel approaches to improve physical health and quality of life among people with mental illness

Do you have original research or review papers you wish to publish on enhancing physical health outcomes for people with mental illness? Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment invites you to submit your paper to its latest Article Collection entitled ‘Closing the mortality gap: novel approaches to improve physical health and quality of life among people with mental illness’.

Mental illnesses like depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are associated with a significant reduction in life expectancy – averaging a 15-year decrease – largely due to physical health comorbidities such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Prioritizing physical health in mental healthcare can enhance quality of life and increase social engagement for patients with mental illnesses.

The Article Collection welcomes papers from all related research subjects, including but not limited to mental health, severe mental illness, physical health, clinical services, evaluation research, digital health, lifestyle, nutrition, physical activity, self-management, co-design and cognition. Articles based on studies with both randomized controlled and quasi-experimental designs (e.g., feasibility and pilot studies) will be eligible for inclusion, as well as epidemiological studies and articles outlining the development of novel interventions to improve health in people with severe mental illness. Articles without empirical data will also be considered for inclusion if they provide an integration of ideas from different disciplines, demonstrate or discuss the use of implementation or consumer involvement frameworks, and if their contribution can be deemed to have a potential for advancing mental health research.
