Researchers have mapped out the neural circuitry and stress-induced biochemical changes responsible for causing our brains to present a generalized fear response. The team discovered that stress induces changes in the chemical signals of the neurons, switching excitatory ‘glutamate’ to inhibitory ‘GABA’ neurotransmitters.
